Regent Park United Soccer
Orville Reynolds, Volunteer Founder & Coach, Regent Park United Soccer
I have been involved in coaching soccer my entire adult life – first as an undergrad at a soccer camp in Washington D.C., then as a volunteer parent/coach in East York, and finally as a volunteer coach in Regent Park for the Toronto Youth Development charity.
I spent three very enjoyable and educational years in that program. In the spring of 2016, when the TYD informed the volunteers that the program was going to be folded for financial reasons, I was able to organize a group of volunteers to ensure the program continued.
Regent Park United was created as a non-profit organization providing free soccer programming to youth ages 6–18 in underserved neighbourhoods across Toronto. We currently have 300+ youth participating across Regent Park, Taylor Creek, Black Creek and Parkdale neighbourhoods.
RPU provides a safe, inclusive and positive environment where youth can stay active, build relationships and develop skills both on and off the soccer field. Along with soccer development, we place a strong emphasis on respect, teamwork, leadership and community-building.
