April is Maternal and Child Health Month. To address it, we are inviting representatives of “Children First Canada” to speak to their report “The Kids Are Not Alright” which shows that out of 29 OECD countries Canada ranked 21 st in child poverty and overall physical and mental health, and calls for the creation of a National Children’s Commissioner for Canada. Speaking will be Angela Simo Brown, Head of Social Change at AirMiles/LoyaltyOne and Sam Yacob, CFC Youth Ambassador.

Bios included: Angela Simo Brown co-founded and runs AIR MILES for Social Change. In 2014 she was a recipient of the Women’s Executive Network’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada Award, driving economic value while creating positive social change. She is an ambassador for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project and an advisor for Evergreen Brickworks CityWorks Leaders Council and for Companies and Causes Canada.

Sam Yacob is a student at Brooklin High School in Durham. As well as being the Youth Ambassador for Children First Canada, he is or has been a SHAD Fellow, a Youth Councillor for the Town of Whitby, a Business and Marketing Intern, a youth advisor to the Ministry of Education, a Director of the PC Whitby Riding Association, a production assistant at Rogers and winner of numerous awards in a variety of capacities.
