The Music Project
Jul. 05, 2018 12:30 p.m.
Miranda Snyder is Executive Director of The Music Project (www.themusicprojectTO.com). She'll be speaking to TERC about this non-profit music school serving kids in Toronto's East End. Their mandate is to use music to create a transformative change in children and communities helping children reach their full potential. They operate out of Secord Public School in Toronto's East End. That neighbourhood and school are characterized by high levels of poverty, a high proportion of newcomers to Toronto and Canada, and many of the systemic issues that come with these socio-economic challenges. More than 50% of students come from families that make under $20,000 a year. To all families, they offer music lessons on a sliding scale based on income, and provide those lessons in a safe, fun environment. They rely heavily on community support, financial donations and grants. |
